Introduction & Immediate Reactions

I could not put it down no matter how hard I tried and read the entire book in less than 10 hours. From the first line to the last, I was hooked and I did not care whether I ate or slept.  The world building, magic system, and of course, the character reveals along the way kept me reading straight through to the end before I even realized I was there.

Met Expectations: No, Shield of Sparrows exceeded my expectations in the most delightful way!

The World & Magic

The world-building in “Shield of Sparrows” was so clear that I had no difficulty picturing Calandra.  I loved how our main characters travel from Quentis, the well-known kingdom, to Turah, another kingdom that barely anyone outside of it’s borders even knows about.  I felt as if I was seeing and exploring Turah for the first time right alongside our female main character.

I also really enjoyed the new take on alchemy and transfiguration as well.  I cannot wait to see how magic unfolds as the series continues.

The Characters

The chemistry between the three main characters Odessa Cross, Guardian Ransom Wolfe and Prince Zavier is so thick, I don’t think I could cut it with just any knife.  I loved the banter, the hesitation, and the dedication Ransom Wolf has to Prince Zavier as well as their combined loyalty to the kingdom of Turah.

The deep back story of Ransom Wolf and Prince Zavier is sweet but also sad, and they had my heart aching at times.  Knowing those two go way back and what they’ve already done for one another and the kingdom leaves little to the imagination of how far they’re both willing to go for each other and for Turah.

“Shield of Sparrows” brought these three characters together and now they must survive and work with each other to get to the bottom of things.

🌶️ The Spice Report

Spice Level: 3/5

When the twists and turns that take the reader on an emotional journey finally come to an end,  know this: it is well-worth the wait!

Overall Thoughts & Recommendation

Fantastic!  I absolutely loved reading “Shield of Sparrows” so much, I read the book in less than 10 hours!  The story was full of surprises and unexpected shifts yet full of incredible detail that I felt I was right there with the characters.  I devoured this book so quickly that I didn’t realize the pages came to an end.

I cannot recommend reading “Shield of Sparrows”  enough!
